The 8th Annual Tour de Brooklyn is Sunday, June 3rd!

This year's Tour is 21.5 miles long and begins and ends in Commodore Barry Park. Riders will travel through the great Brooklyn neighborhoods of Fort Greene, Park Slope, Sunset Park, Bay Ridge, Bensonhurst, Midwood, Kensington and Prospect Heights. The rest stop this year will be at Dyker Beach Park.

In order to make the Tour truly a ride for everyone, we have implemented a couple of brand new features. There will now be two waves of riders. Both waves start and finish at the same location, enjoy the same great Brooklyn route and relax and refuel at the same rest stop.

New in 2012 -- Waves

Wave One is a self-guided, ride at your own pace tour. Riders will navigate the route with a cue sheet. There will also be street markings painted along the route. This wave is for riders who wish to move a little faster than the 10 mph average speed of the Wave Two escorted ride. Note: There is no police escort for Wave One, and participants ride on streets open to regular motor vehicle traffic. There will be marshals who ride along the route. Registration is limited to 1,000 participants. Recommended for experienced bicyclists.

Wave Two is the classic Tour de Brooklyn. This wave moves en masse as a rolling parade escorted by the New York City Police Department. While there are no actual street closures, the NYPD and Transportation Alternatives' volunteer safety marshals will block or "cork" traffic intersections to allow the Tour to roll through. There will be occasional stops while the NYPD and marshals secure intersections and gather riders. This wave moves at a family-friendly pace of about 10 mph. Registration is limited to 1,500 participants. Recommended for beginner to moderate bicyclists.

New in 2012 -- Bike Bonanzas

Bike Bonanzas feature free, fun activities for the whole family: a Learn to Ride class and Bike Driver's Ed clinic for kids, free helmets for kids and adults, a kids' bike swap, bike registration and more. Bike Bonanza is a joint project of Bike New York, the New York City Department of Transportation, Recycle-a-Bicycle and the New York City Police Department. Registration is not required, but preferred for some of the activities. Refer to Bike New York's Bike Bonanza Page for more details. Recommended for kids.
